World of Concrete 2020 – Recap

Guest contributor – Tim Boyle, Co-CEO of Whip Around

Sixty-five thousand people at the Las Vegas Convention Center was always going to make for an impressive show. What I underestimated was the volume of innovation and positivity that came with it. World of Concrete 2020 was an experience on a number of levels, with a highly engaged turnout ready and willing to share ideas, discuss common challenges, and ultimately, talk shop and do business with the endless vendors selling their wares.

For Whip Around, this was what we had hoped for — to be in front of an audience who understood the potential of what we offered and had a real pain to solve. One of the most interesting takeaways from the conversations we were having was the surprise many operators had when we outlined what we could do. The thought that there was a solution to such an obvious problem already out there came as a pleasant surprise.

This is a common conversation we have, and we need to educate people on the problem that their current processes pose, whether or not they have seen it themselves. The ‘aha’ moment comes when they can see the connectivity between their teams, the availability of real-time information, and of course, some clever machine intelligence to keep it all moving.

The construction industry has many layers of health and safety, compliance and fleet management that overlap, with heavy vehicles, equipment, and people all working in the same environments and often travelling between job sites, increasing the risk profile of their operations. With the disparate nature of these fleets and teams, the task of managing risk and compliance becomes extremely difficult.

World of Concrete was a huge success for us. We came away with some great opportunities to follow up and great feedback on our product from existing customers who were at the show, as well as those seeing it for the first time. We saw many other great tech solutions providers there as well as some of the larger industry stalwarts such as CRH, CAT, Mikita and other equipment manufacturers and distributors.

Now we turn our attention to CONEXPO-CON/AGG in a few weeks time, a much bigger show that occurs every three years. We couldn’t be more excited to get back to Vegas and mix with the crowds again. If you’re going to be there, come see us at booth S62308. In the meantime, get a feel for what it’s like to take control of fleet inspections and maintenance with Whip Around – get free access.
